But performance cars come with performance costs, and in Sri Lanka's unique economic environment, those costs need careful consideration before you sign the cheque. Which Golf R Is Available in Sri Lanka?

Three generations of Golf R circulate in the Sri Lankan market:

Mk6 Golf R (2009-2013)

The first true Golf R (replacing the R32) uses the EA113 2.0 TSI engine producing 270 PS with 350 Nm. It came with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed DSG and Haldex fourth-generation all-wheel drive. Mk7 Golf R (2013-2020)

Mk7.5 Golf R (2017-2020)

The facelifted Mk7 R received minor power increases (310 PS), an Akrapovic exhaust option, and a slightly revised interior. Prices start around LKR 13 million for clean examples. The mechanical differences from the Mk7 are minimal, so the additional cost is primarily for the facelift styling and newer features.

Engine Maintenance — The EA888 Costs

The EA888 engine in the Golf R is a stressed unit. It produces more power per litre than the same basic engine in a Golf GTI, which means tighter tolerances, higher operating temperatures, and a greater need for precise maintenance. Here is what to budget:
